Your licence is the beginning. BOS practical coaching is designed to help you become comfortable operating your own boat, trailer, equipment and electronics in the real world.
Your boat handles differently from the one you trained on. Your trailer is different. Your electronics are different. Your local ramp is different.
Rather than generic classroom advice, BOS works through the things you actually need to know with your own boat and equipment.
Passing a licence assessment doesn't necessarily mean you've had much experience launching your particular boat, retrieving it at a busy ramp, handling wind and current, anchoring, using your electronics or dealing with the practical responsibilities of being skipper.

Trailer prep, reversing, launching, ramp etiquette, retrieving, winching and securing the boat.
Getting underway, low-speed manoeuvring, pontoons, turning, stopping, planing, wind, current and confined spaces.
Choosing an anchorage, deploying and retrieving the anchor, and approaching and securing to a public mooring.
Charts, channel marks, depths, hazards, trip planning, tides, currents, GPS and chartplotter basics.
Pre-departure checks, weather, fuel, passenger safety, equipment, weight distribution and dealing with loss of propulsion or emergencies.
Launching solo, loading, washdown, trailer care, basic maintenance and recognising when something isn't right.
Bring your questions with you. New boat owners nearly always have a list of things they're unsure about, and this is your opportunity to ask them in person while we're standing next to your actual boat and equipment.
A three-hour practical session using your own boat, trailer and equipment. We focus on the areas you want confidence in and work through your questions as we go.
Need more time? Extensions are available on the day, subject to availability, so you can keep going if there is more to cover.
The session can be tailored around the things you actually want to learn.
A practical run-through of your boat, trailer, controls, equipment, launching and the things you're unsure about.
Focus on reversing, launching, retrieving, securing and handling the pressure of a busy ramp.
Low-speed control, approaches, wind/current, getting on and off the plane and general confidence at the helm.
Work through your chartplotter, GPS, marine charts, trip planning and the equipment actually fitted to your boat.
